2010 internships available at Serra Media

There’s never been a better time for innovation in journalism, digital content and community.

So come help Serra Media build interactive digital platforms and communities for local publishers, independent journalism startups and university journalism programs and poetry scholarships for writers and more.

The difference between broadcast, digital and print media typically boils down to the medium in which the audience receives the content. Broadcast media transmits its information electronically through visual and audio programming such as radio and television. The success of a broadcasting outlet largely depends on the ability to entertain and satisfy its audience, and it’s up to the media team to engage the largest audience possible. Digital media is a form of electronic media that reaches its audience through the web and data is stored in digital form. A career in digital media demands strong team collaboration and a firm knowledge of computers and software applications. Print media uses newspapers, books or the internet to distribute information to its audience. This type of media usually involves a degree in journalism or mass communication. A typical day in the print media world involves reporting and writing stories while meeting tough deadlines.

Given the competitiveness of the job market, relevant experience in media is one of the most important factors when hiring full-time employees. Depending on your concentration, media interns can have the opportunity to manage social networking websites, databases, assist in audio production, publishing, and more. An intern’s time usually consists of working on projects with the purpose of developing career-oriented skills.

My company is looking for smart people who are enthusiastic about local content, collaborative publishing and the future of digital content. We’re specifically looking for budding stars in the areas of community management, social marketing and web development (Drupal experience preferred).

If that’s you, check out the details on Serra Media’s Internship Program. These aren’t traditional news/journalism positions, but will be valuable experience and a good resume builder for anyone looking for work in digital communication.
